Fab Frugal Fitness Series – Week #10 by Claudia Matles

 

This week in our Fab Frugal Summer Series, Claudia Matles shows us a great sequence that awakens the entire body, building strength and stability with toning. It’s an all in one and can be practiced anywhere and for anyone at all levels!

 

 

Sun Salutations:

Here’s a great routine/sequence that awakens the entire body, building strength and stability with toning as well as cultivating more flexibility, length and space not only in the body but within the breath so that the mind is soothed as well as the nervous system.  It’s an all in one and can be practiced anywhere and for anyone at all levels!

1. Five Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar A) – Here you can watch the video of Surya Namaskar A

3. Forward Bend (five breaths) holding big toes in yoga toe lock

4. Triangle (both sides)


5. Flow with a Vinyasa (plank, chataranga, downward dog, jump or step to top of the mat, inhale look up, exhale deep fold, inhale sweep arms up and come to stand)


6. Reverse Warrior (back hand down the back thigh, lift the left arm up)

7. Flow with a Vinyasa (plank, chataranga, downward dog, jump or step to top of the mat, inhale look up, exhale deep fold, inhale sweep arms up and come to stand)


8. Tree pose (top of the mat, bend the right leg so heel is at buttocks, take right foot to inner left thigh, inhale arms up, exhale arms out thumbs touch index fingers… five breaths

9. Flow with a Vinyasa (plank, chataranga, downward dog, jump or step to top of the mat, inhale look up, exhale deep fold, inhale sweep arms up and come to stand)


10. Seat straight leg forward bend (hold for five breaths)


11. Wheel (on your back, legs bent, interlace your fingers underneath the buttocks, lift hips … five breaths) then, come into wheel


12. Hold knees to chest, rock on sacrum slowly, then straighten left leg to mat, cross right knee with left hand to twist… stay for five breaths x2


13. Rest Vinyasa

Attending her first yoga class as an undergrad student she fell in love with yoga followed by pilates and nutrition. She has learned many styles of yoga with a variety of instructors including viniyoga with Gary Kraftsow in Hawaii and vinyasa with Julie Kleinman/Shiva Rea at Yogaworks in Santa Monica.
