MONEY MOVE OF THE WEEK
SIMPLIFY YOUR FINANCES.
Before the New Year is the perfect time to simplify your financial life. When we have fewer accounts, there’s less to track AND fewer passwords to reset. That might mean closing extra bank accounts we don’t use or need, or finally rolling over an old 401(k). Yes, simplifying can be tedious but it pays dividends 💸 in the future (pun intended).
Make a list of your accounts. Do you have multiple bank accounts? How about multiple investment accounts? Don’t kill the messenger but having investment accounts all over the place does not count as diversifying.
Write down the steps it will take to simplify your financial life. That might mean transferring over the funds from one account to another, changing where an expense hits and eventually closing an account. You don't have to do it all in one day. You can tackle one or two steps each week. ✔️
You in 2023 will thank you!

LATINA EQUAL PAY DAY.
Tomorrow, December 8th is Latina Equal Pay Day. Latinas earn $0.54 for every $1 a white man earns.
That means Latinas work almost 2 years (11+ additional months) to earn what a white man earned in 1 year.
I’m enraged, are you? 🙋♀️
This is another pay gap that has grown since last year. In 2021 Latina Equal Pay Day was on October 21st (representing $0.57). This year we saw a $0.03 decrease in pay.
If you want to learn more about equal pay and what we can do to move the needle, here are some resources:

A friend recently recommended the book War Against All Puerto Ricans. Almost 10% of the U.S. Hispanic population is Puerto Rican. The book tells a bigger story but within it you can see countless ways the Puerto Rican population was stripped of their wealth. An important read!
