Money Musings: I've Got Answers for You

Money Musings 💭 I’ve Got Answers for You

I am excited to share an update on my book writing process and to answer some of your questions.

I cannot tell you how excited 😆 I am to share this book with you. The information is SO important that part of me wants to circulate the unedited Google Docs with you all RIGHT NOW.

Before my book team freaks out… the thought crossed my mind but I promise not to do this. I know it will be worth the wait.

This book is definitely a personal finance how-to and workbook (like The 30-Day Money Cleanse) but it’s also become a financial expose, which I didn’t expect. There are so many wild (and messed up) things happening that I’ve uncovered through my interviews.

So yes, there’s a lot of learning that will be happening, but there is also juicy drama. 🍿

I have drafted the first version of all the chapters… AHHH. They are going through edits from my sensitivity editor (shoutout to Dr. Akilah Cadet!) and then as she finishes, I’m slowly but surely sending the (more) final drafts to my development editor at the publisher.

I’ve gotten so many thoughtful questions from all of you and I’ve compiled my answers for you here. If you have more, hit reply and let me know and I’m happy to add to this list.

In the coming weeks I’m going to be able to tell you more and more about this next book. I can hardly wait! 🥳

MONEY MOVE OF THE WEEK

MAKE A VALUES-BASED SPENDING SWAP.

Based on your values statement and values spending check, what did you find? Are there any expenses you’d like to switch out? Do some recon and make the switch.

Think about the expenses that reflect your values or are necessities. Where do you make those purchases? Can you think of another brand or company that better reflects the world you want to see? Now let’s use our dollars to support them.

In addition to buying products and services from mission-based companies, we can also continue buying the same products from small, local businesses, woman-owned businesses, or BIPOC-owned businesses. Every dollar spent is a vote for the kind of world we want to see!

Here are some of the Fiscal Femme community’s favorite Black-owned, AAPI-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and woman-owned businesses.

OUR & YOUR FAVORITE NON-FICTION BOOKS.

To say I’ve been reading a lot of nonfiction lately would be an understatement. If I’m interviewing someone for the book, and they’ve written their own book, you better believe I’m going to read it (or at least skim it). Reading personal finance and money-related books has been a strategy I’ve used since the very beginning of my money journey.

One of the reasons books help me cut through all the extra info and noise is that a book is a finite number of pages. It’s different from a TV show that can air every day or even a blog that can have endless articles. A book is a compilation of what a certain expert thinks I need to know on a topic - and that’s incredibly valuable.

I’ve compiled a list of your favorite non-fiction books (many are related to money and personal finance), and I’ve included my own as well! Get the list here.
