Money Musings 💭 the most important 💵 mindset shift 🌱
One of the shifts I see in my clients is that they switch from a fixed to a growth mindset around money. What does that mean? Instead of believing their abilities with money are fixed (saying and thinking things like “I am just terrible with money. This is not something I can do.”), they start to believe that they can improve and get better at it with practice. And of course, they can! 🙋♀️
This makes our money failures seem less like fatal flaws and more like learning experiences.
I remember Sara Blakely (the founder of Spanx) say in an interview that they shared a failure of the day around her dinner table growing up. This normalized, and even encouraged, risk-taking and coming up short over perfection. This is such an incredible practice to cultivate a growth mindset.
J and I list three things we’re grateful for each night and share a highlight of the day in a ‘one line a day journal.’ It’s such a fun practice that not only reminds us of how much we have to be grateful for, but it also helps us recount the magical ✨ moments in our day (that can otherwise all blend together).
We’ve now added a failure of the day and have made it a part of dinner time so E can join in on the fun.
This is just one of the many powerful mindset transformations that happen during the 30-Day Money Cleanse Course. You can learn more and register here.
What’s one way you failed with money today or even this week? What can you learn from it?
MONEY MOVE OF THE WEEK
Keep a money journal. It’s really easy to have no idea where your money is going. We tend to not want to know (imagine ostriches 🐦 with our heads in the sand) and technology makes it that much easier to hide from. An incredibly impactful yet simple exercise is to keep a money journal - where you write down 📝 or type out everything you spend and earn. Start with writing down the item and how much it cost. Make it easy on yourself. If you like to write things by hand, carry a notebook with you. If you prefer to type it out, keep it in notes on your phone. We have a money journal template to get you started. 🎉

The best feminist Halloween costumes. Every year Halloween comes around too quickly, I don’t plan in advance and am jealous of all the creative feminist costumes. Meanwhile, I’m dressed as a chef again to E’s spaghetti and meatballs (but to be fair, it’s an amazing costume!) 😂. This year, I’m starting early. Here are some timely, feminist Halloween costumes.
At the same time, it goes without saying, we want to make sure our costumes are not offensive or oppressive. Here are some questions to ask ourselves.
