Money Musings: politics & money (+ BIG announcement)

Money Musings 💭  politics & 💰 (+ BIG 📣)

Last week I cried tears of joy when Raphael Warnock, the first Black senator elected in Georgia (he will be the 11th Black senator of 2,000 senators who have served), and Jon Ossoff, the first Jewish senator elected in Georgia (he will be the 37th Jewish senator), flipped the state and turned the senate blue.

Shortly thereafter, I cried in sadness and disgust as I watched our US Capitol stormed by a mob of rioters. It was an image I had only seen on the news reporting in other countries - countries without democracy.

And most of all, I was deeply disturbed (yet not at all surprised) by this. ⬇

“No one can tell me if it had been a group of Black Lives Matter protestors yesterday that they wouldn't have been treated very differently than the mob that stormed the Capitol.

We all know that’s true - and it’s unacceptable.” - President Elect Joe Biden

7 days and counting.

There’s major work to do.

I know the change in administration won’t solve our country's deep racism and division - but it’s a shift in the right direction. I am committed to educating myself and doing better in my personal life and in my business.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

This year during my maternity leave, I had a lot of time to think. I spent a lot of time thinking about your money challenges and questions, and how the Fiscal Femme can support you in a bigger way.

There are many areas of personal finance and it takes a general understanding of all of them to feel really confident in our plans.

Having a handle on a few can help tremendously but it’s a big endeavor (and puzzle) to master all the pieces of our money lives AND have them work together in a personal way that aligns with our values and goals.

I want that for you.

The Fiscal Femme community is so special. It’s for those who not only want to have a financial plan, understand insurance, grow their money and have some fun, but it’s also for those who want to do good with their money.

You want to be a consumer activist and impact investor. Your giving plan is as important to you as your savings plan.

You also have a lot going on. You have incredible careers and goals, robust family and social lives (even if they’re mostly on Zoom), and other interests.

With all this in mind, I created the Fiscal Femme $$$ School

It’s a 12-month (52-week) program to get your financial sh*t together with a ~2 hour time commitment per week. You get:

  • Lifetime access to all 4 of the Fiscal Femme courses

  • Monthly live workshops

  • Weekly “homework” action items (as part of themed months)

  • Plus, there’s accountability and support in private Slack channels.

You can check out each of the themed months and classes here but some of the highlights include: classes on impact investing and consumer activism, closing racial and gender wealth gaps, minimizing taxes, buying a car, investing in real estate, and buying a home.

Because this is the first time I’m launching the program, I’m going to be offering a VERY discounted BETA price of $599 for the 12 months (or $59 per month).

Enrollment closes on Jan 27th and the program will begin on Feb 1st

I’d love to hear your feedback and questions. And most of all, would love to have you join!

PS We have a free live class today - Create Your 2021 Financial Plan (+Money Party) - at 5 pm ET. Join me live or register to get the recording!

MONEY MOVE OF THE WEEK

Have a Money Party. If you don’t set aside time to deal with your money, it’s probably not going to happen. Things will always come up and get in the way and your money to-do’s will continue to hang over your head. The solution? Money Parties. 🥳

A Money Party is time you set aside to show your money 💵 some love. First, the party 🎉 part. I call it a party for a reason – make it fun. Play some music (I have a fun $ playlist), get cozy, pour your favorite beverage, and reward yourself afterward. Then, make your agenda. A Money Party is a great time to check in on your spending, track your goal and  cancel any subscriptions you’re not using.

YOU GOTTA SEE THIS

All In: The Fight for Democracy. Last night I watched All In: The Fight for Democracy, a documentary co-produced by Stacey Abrams - and I highly recommend it. You get an important history of voter suppression in the United States, as well as a deeper understanding of how often benign-sounding laws are used to suppress thousands of votes.

I’m sure you’ve been hearing a lot about Stacey Abrams as many are saying she’s the most responsible for flipping Georgia blue, increasing voter turnout in battleground states across the United States, and registering over a million new voters.

When I see people achieve incredible success, I often make the automatic assumption that when I started hearing about them was not long after they started their work.

But what many people don’t realize is that this was 10 years in the making. Abrams started her efforts when she worked in the state House of Representatives.

There’s also an incredible Podcast episode of The Daily that’s absolutely worth a listen. Check out the January 4th episode: The Georgia Runoffs, Part 1: ‘We Are Black Diamonds.’
